Biography

Coach Sergio was born and raised in Carpinteria, CA and started playing water polo for Carpinteria High School the summer before his Sophomore year and was named Varsity Team Captain by his Senior year.  He then attended Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA where he graduated with a B.A. in Psychology in just three years while co-founding and organizing a Water Polo Club which he was also the Vice President of.

He started coaching water polo with Carpinteria High School in 2018 where he was the Boys Assistant Water Polo Coach before taking over as the Head Aquatics Coach overseeing Boys and Girls Water Polo as well as Swim Team.  As the current Head Aquatics Coach at CHS, he has won Citrus League Championships with the Boys as the assistant coach in 2018 and the head coach in 2019 with an undefeated league record during that span while also being awarded Citrus League Coach of the Year in 2019.  On the Girls side, he has won the Citrus League Championship as the head coach while also being named Citrus League Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2019.  Additionally, he took the girls team on the deepest CIF run in school history during the 2018/2019 season, reaching the semi-finals of CIF Division 7.

Away from water polo, Sergio is a pool and beach Lifeguard for the City of Carpinteria.  He has been a Pool Lifeguard for 5 years and Beach Lifeguard for 4 years and has also been a Junior Lifeguard Instructor for the past 4 years.
