Biography

Max Bergeson is a Left-handed attacker born in Portland, Oregon on June 15, 1992. He lived there for 11 years playing all other sports, then picked up water polo when he moved to Carlsbad, CA. As a freshman Max was a member of Carlsbad High Schools 2007 CIF SDS Championship Team and finished his High school Career at Corona del Mar in Newport Beach. There he was a two-time Daily Pilot Dream Team Player of the Year. He scored 256 goals, 93 in his senior season and was named Pacific Coast League Player of the Year the last two seasons. He was a three-time All-CIF Southern Section Division I first-team selection. His Senior Year, he won the junior Olympics with SoCal Club before attending UC Berkeley. Freshman year at Cal, he was a member of the NCAA runner-up team, scoring two goals in the semifinals vs. LMU.

As a coach, he has previously been a part of CDM Grey. He was then the coach of Cal’s Collegiate Club team where he was awarded the 2014 CWPA Nationals Coach of the Year with a 3rd place finish in Utah. For the past two years, Max has been a coach for Cate High School in Carpinteria for the Boys and Girls water polo team, as well as a coach for Santa Barbara Premier within various age groups.

Max is the son of Garth Bergeson who helped the UCLA Bruins win a couple national championships in the 1970’s, and the nephew of James Bergeson, who led Stanford University twice to national titles, and won the silver medal for the United States at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
